I joined NDTC in 1986 with my St. Bernard, Wotan. Having passed the public class we moved to the Taradale Club for training. Once there Wotan excelled himself by doing a recall at full speed and kept on going (all 85kgs of him), pulled me out of the ring and dragged me along as he headed behind a shed. We were definitely not competition material. My next dog was Jolie, a Bernese Mountain Dog, who enjoyed the social side of obedience but not competition. A placing in Novice was her limit. My last competitive dog was Marli, a Belgian Tervueren. We competed seriously progressing to Test B with a couple of placings. She also qualified with CDX. I now have another Terv named Jazz who is purely a social dog as I can no longer compete.

I have been involved in club catering since 1987 mostly doing judges lunches. Through my interest in dogs I have completed the Massey course in Canine behaviour and the British Canines Studies Institute Course in Human/Canine Interaction. My time with the club has been a challenging, rewarding and enjoyable time

In 1994 I was nominated for Life Membership which was granted.
