Canine Good Citizen (CGC)
The Next Step in Your Dog’s Training Journey
After completing our public classes, the Canine Good Citizen (CGC) program is the perfect way to continue your dog's training journey. It's designed to help you build a well-mannered, confident, and reliable companion—qualities that make your dog a joy to have around and a respected member of the community.
What Is CGC?
The CGC program is a nationally recognized certification offered by Dogs New Zealand, focusing on practical skills that ensure your dog behaves well in everyday situations. It's open to all dogs over 12 months of age, regardless of breed or background. Training is conducted in a relaxed, non-competitive environment, emphasizing positive reinforcement and clear communication between you and your dog. dogsnz.org.nz

Why CGC Is the Next Step
Completing the CGC program is a natural progression after public classes. It provides a structured framework to continue your dog's education, reinforcing good behavior and addressing more advanced challenges. Achieving CGC certification not only demonstrates your dog's good manners but also strengthens the bond between you and your canine companion.
Assessment and Certification
After completing each level, your dog can undergo an assessment conducted by a registered Dogs New Zealand CGC Assessor. Successful completion of the assessment results in a CGC certificate for that level, and your dog's name is registered on a national database. This certification is a testament to your dog's good manners and your commitment to responsible ownership.
Assessment Schedule
We strive to hold CGC assessments every six months, providing ample opportunities for handlers to progress through the levels and showcase their dog's skills.
