Napier Dog Training Club Attendee Requirements

  1. Training Policy:The club follows a positive reinforcement and reward-based approach to training dogs.

  2. Dog Behavior:

    • Continuous barking is considered disruptive and will not be tolerated.

    • Harsh handling of dogs is strictly prohibited.

    • Choke chains and electronic collars are not permitted during training sessions.

  3. Restraint and Control of Dogs:

    • Dogs must be secured in your vehicle when not actively participating in training.

    • Dogs should never be left unattended, tied to a vehicle or fence, or allowed to roam freely.

    • When not restrained, dogs must be under the control of their handler at all times.

    • Dogs must remain on a lead at all times during classes unless instructed by your trainer

  4. Health and Safety:

    • All dogs must be currently registered with the relevant local dog control authority, as required by law.

    • Dogs must have their puppy vaccinations and we encourage all dogs to have ongoing vaccinations as advised by your vet

    • Dogs showing signs of infectious diseases should not be brought to the club grounds. If you are uncertain, please consult your instructor.

    • Bitches in season are not permitted to attend training classes 

  5. Waste Disposal:

    • Owners are required to clean up after their dogs if they foul on the grounds. A waste bin is located at the rear of the clubrooms. Please ensure you bring your own waste bags.

  6. Club Grounds and Equipment:

    • Club keys are not to be shared, except for official club-related purposes, and the committee must be notified.

    • Individuals are prohibited from profiting from the club's grounds or equipment without permission from the committee.

    • Club and competition agility equipment must remain on club grounds unless prior approval has been obtained from the committee.

  7. Training Requirements:

    • All dogs must successfully complete a basic obedience course prior to participating in any club activities, regardless of the owner's membership status. Exceptions may be made for dogs transferring from another Dogs NZ dog training club, provided they have completed a course equivalent to the basic obedience class. However, these dogs will be assessed, and may still be required to complete the NDTC basic obedience course at the discretion of the club.

  8. Respectful Conduct:

    • All individuals on club grounds are expected to treat others with respect and consideration.

    • Please remember that all trainers are volunteers.

    • When out in public wearing club branded clothing please be aware you are representing the club

  9. Ribbon Policy:

    • The club’s ribbon policy will be followed at all times.
